Crash-Rated Security Gates

The Patriot Gate: Built for High-Stakes Access Control

When security can’t fail, the gate can’t either. Tilt-Away’s M30- and M50-certified crash-rated security gates are engineered to stop a 15,000-lb vehicle in its tracks while managing controlled personnel access, all in a single system.

Purpose-Built to Stop Threats and Control Access

The Patriot Gate, Tilt-A-Way’s crash gate, isn’t a standard access gate with added reinforcement: it’s a crash-rated barrier and access control gate combined into one system. Here’s what it’s built to do:

M30 & M50 Certified

Independently tested and certified to stop vehicles at both 30 mph and 50 mph impact ratings

Largest Single-Span Vertical Pivot Crash Gate Available

Maximum 20-ft clear opening (confirm exact footage), outpacing competitors limited to ~16 ft

Maximum Height: 9 Feet

Accommodates a wide range of facility entry configurations

Extreme Cold & Snow Performance

Reliable operation in harsh weather conditions year-round

Universal Access Control Compatibility

Works with any keypad, card reader, or access control system — no proprietary lock-in

One System, Two Functions

Replaces the need for a separate crash beam plus a personnel gate

Why Are You Still Running a Crash Beam and a Gate?

Many facilities spec a swing- or wedge-style crash barrier and then install a separate gate behind it to manage personnel access. It works, but it’s expensive, logistically complicated, and creates twice the maintenance headache.

Wedge barriers and bollards have an additional drawback: they’re installed in the ground, making them problematic in cold, snowy climates. The PatriotGate is a surface-mounted system that performs reliably in all weather conditions.

Where the Patriot Gate Gets Deployed

From military installations to freight yards, the PatriotGate is built for facilities where access failure isn’t an option.

Military Base Controlled Entry

Border Facility & Checkpoint Lanes

Secure Campus Perimeter Access

Government & Federal Facility Entries

Auto/Rail Yard Security (e.g., BNSF-style facilities)

Airport Perimeter Access Roads

Critical Infrastructure Entry Points

Installed at Secure Facilities Worldwide

The Patriot Gate has been specified and installed at some of the most security-sensitive facilities in the country and abroad.

Self-Storage Gate FAQs

What is the difference between M30 and M50 certification?

For most self-storage facilities, the best gate is one that supports frequent daily cycles, maintains fast, consistent operation, fits a tight footprint, and integrates with your access control setup. A vertical pivot / tilt-away gate is often a strong fit because it’s built for throughput and reliability without needing a long slide run or wide swing clearance.

What is the maximum clear opening for the PatriotGate?

In most cases, yes. Tilt-A-Way gates are designed to be access-control ready, and the meeting notes specifically call out compatibility with common keypads and entry systems/software workflows used in self-storage. Send us your system details and we’ll confirm compatibility.

Does the PatriotGate work with our existing access control system?

Tilt-A-Way gates operate at about ~12–13 seconds, compared to 20+ seconds typical for slide gates. That faster cycle time helps reduce backups during peak entry/exit windows.

What is the maximum gate height?

A tilt or vertical pivot gate opens by pivoting upward/away, which typically helps when space is limited at the entrance. A swing gate opens like a door and requires a wide swing radius (clear space) to operate. For self-storage sites with tight lanes or constrained layouts, the vertical pivot style is often a better fit.

How does the PatriotGate perform in snow and cold weather?

Yes — Tilt-A-Way gates are reliable in wind/snow climates, and you can still expect peak performance in wind, snow, and extreme cold.

Can the PatriotGate replace both a crash barrier and a personnel access gate?

Yes — our gate are UL325 listed, demonstrating our commitment to safety and quality.

Do you offer CAD drawings and installation specs? (link to Architects & Engineers page)

Yes. Tilt-A-Way offers vertical pivot (tilt-away) gates that are well-suited for self-storage facilities—built for frequent daily cycles, tight footprints, and access control integration.
